2 get life imprisonment for murder

The Suva High Court has been given life sentences to two men for murdering a man in August 2012 at Nanuku Settlement in Vatuwaqa, Suva.

Ilikimi Naitini and Pailato Cavasiga assaulted Tevita Voivoi who was visiting relatives with his wife.

The court heard on the day of the incident, Voivoi came home drunk and started a commotion.

A fight ensued when Naitini went to check on what was going on.

The court heard Naitini took a heavy wooden post and hit Voivoi.

The victim died at the CWM hospital due to injuries from a cracked skull and subdural haemorrhage.

Judge Justice Paul Madigan sentenced Naitini to life imprisonment and will not be eligible for parole until he has served 18 years of that term.

Cavasiga has also been sentenced to life imprisonment and he will serve a minimum of 16 years before he is eligible for parole.
