$13.9 million Rakiraki bridge opens

October 13, 2015 3:17 am

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimaram has opened the new $13.9 million Rakiraki Bridge.

Bainimarama says with the opening of the bridge, government is not only transforming the local economy and improving the lives of the people in Rakiraki but also transforming the prospects of the national economy by reducing travel times along the Kings Road and improving the flow of trade.

He says it is literally a bridge to the future of the northern region of Viti Levu – part of government’s overall plan to open up that part of Fiji and provide its people with the better opportunities they deserve.

Bainimarama says government certainly have it’s eyes firmly on the future because the bridge has been specifically designed and built to have a life of 100 years.

He says while we may not know how Rakiraki will look in 2215, we can be sure that it will be bigger and even more vibrant.
