Northern residents will have the opportunity to question Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica and propose solutions to climate and environmental challenges at a public town hall in Nukubalavu Village, Savusavu, on Wednesday.
Organised by the Fijian Media Association, the Pre-COP31 Climate Change Town Hall will run from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm, with the discussion livestreamed across participating media platforms.
The event will give local communities a direct forum to raise concerns, ask about government action, and share practical ideas to protect their environment and livelihoods.
DPM Kamikamica will be joined by Permanent Secretary for Environment Dr Sivendra Michael, along with other government officials and regional experts attending the PINA Media Summit in Savusavu.
The FMA encourages residents to bring their own experiences to the discussion – the changes they are witnessing, the challenges they face, and the solutions they believe deserve attention.
Questions regarding government responses and community support needs will be central to the conversation.
Held during the 8th Pacific Media Summit – a Pacific Islands News Association event hosted by the FMA – the town hall aims to bring community voices to a regional gathering of journalists and media leaders, directly connecting climate reporting with the people living its consequences.
Supported by PACMAS, the event builds on the FMA’s collaborative town hall initiative, which unites Fiji’s media organisations to facilitate public dialogue and strengthen accountability.
Residents of Savusavu and surrounding communities are invited to attend and participate.
