Sports Coaches complete three day course

December 7, 2019 4:55 am

Sports coaches for different clubs and associations in Labasa and Savusavu have completed a three day Community Strength and Conditioning Coaching Clinic.

It’s an initiative by the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee and the Oceania Sports Education Program(OSEP) as part of their strategic objective to build national capacities of federations in sports administrations and in coaching.

FASANOC Sports Development Officer/OSEP Coordinator says Makelesi Bulikiobo says the three day clinic aims to build the capacity of all sports coaches in order to achieve sporting excellence.

The coaches at national level will one day leave and we will need replacements. So, we are trying to create a base, a big pool of coaches so that its easier for them to come up and replace those that have been coaching for a long time and will retire.

Rugby Coach/Trainer Levaci Digitaki says the course is brought to Vanua Levu for the first time, to give a chance to clubs and associations to bring their performance up to par.

It’s about time that they decentralise some of these trainings as most of the rural coaches especially Strength and Conditioning Coaches lack the skills to properly train their players.

Following the completion of the course, OSEP will be monitoring the progress of the coaches to ensure they actively implement what they have learnt before they can take up the next level.

The Strength and Conditioning Course is one of two in the area of coaching.

The next level is development coaching.
