Former All Blacks coach Steven Hansen has tried to shepherd fans to support new coach Ian Foster.

Speaking to stuff.co.nz Hansen said fans should “get in behind” Foster.

Foster was appointed by New Zealand Rugby this week, to a mixed reception as it appeared Crusaders coach Scott Robertson was the fan favorite.

Hansen said that there were those who doubted him when he took over from Sir Graham Henry, yet he was now extremely proud of his record.

The 2007 World Cup quarterfinal defeat to France and 2017’s drawn series with the British and Irish Lions were his lows, he said.

He refused to be defined by the World Cup semifinal defeat in Japan, when England beat the All Blacks 19-7.
