In an effort to revive the sport of rugby in the Northern Lau Group, the island of Cicia is currently organizing a sevens tournament.
The tournament started yesterday with 10 teams and will continue today with the cup quarterfinals.
Chief Orgarniser Cama Tuidelai says the tournament will also be an opportunity to select a team for next year’s Fiji Bitter Marist 7s.
The province of Lau is well known for its dominance in the sport of Cricket in Fiji however many of our local rugby stars are from Lau including our very Flying Fijians Captain Akapusi Qera.
Tuidelai says the Mago Island 7s team and Mabula are favourites to win the title as they were the only unbeaten teams in pool play.
In the cup quarters, Mago will take on Natokalau, Qeleqele One plays Nayau, Mabula to meet Qeleqele 2 while Tarukua takes on Yacata.
The cup final winner walks away with a thousand dollars prizemoney.
