The Vodafone Flying Fijians are through to the final of the Pacific Nations Cup in Canada.

This despite the side fighting tooth and nail to hold off Japan 27-22 this afternoon.

Fiji raced to a 24-9 lead at halftime, following three tries to Tevita Cavubati, Josh Matavesi and Metuisela Talebula, with Matavesi adding a penalty kick.

Japan came back into the match in the second half with two tries and a penalty in the second spell to trail Fiji by 27-22.

Continuous infringements by Fiji saw yellow cards flashed to Leone Nakarawa and Campese Ma’afu.

Matavesi scored Fiji’s only points in the second half with a penalty kick as Japan mounted a spirited comeback, only to be denied by tenacious defence.

Fiji will march on to the PNC final next Tuesday and their opponents will be decided after the match between Samoa and Canada, which is now underway.
In another match played earlier, USA lost Tonga 33-19.
