Flying Fijians keep plans under wraps

September 7, 2015 12:14 am

The Vodafone Flying Fijians did not put into action all their plays during the 47-18 win over Canada in a Rugby World Cup build-up match this morning in London, England.

The team looked good in most facets of its play and has been drawing worldwide media attention after the win as the countdown to the first match against England looms.

Head coach John McKee says there were things that impressed him in the match, but there are also other areas, which they need to work on.

“We know the key things we need to do in the game. Sometimes we executed today and sometimes we didn’t. We might have a couple little plays up our sleeve that we haven’t used it yet. The game is about probably controlling field possession and that type of things at international level. Most teams do the same thing but they will do it in a slightly different way and that is something we trying to achieve.”

Meanwhile, skipper Akapusi Qera, says they watched England’s 21-13 win over Ireland and know what lies in store.

“Watching the game yesterday, England is a world class team. There are a lot of world class players there, they played well yesterday. But we were just focussing on the game this week and going game by game and for us our main focus was to get rid of those cobwebs and play against Canada and work on some of the style and techniques we need to take against England.”

The Fiji-England match will be played on September 19 at 7am.
