Fiji cricket finish 3rd

The Fiji men’s cricket side has finished 3rd overall in the ICC East-Asia regional qualifiers in Australia.

The side defeated Philippines in its last match by 58 runs.

Opening batsmen Joe Rika and Jikoi Vanualevu started off proceedings well with a combined 67 run partnership.

Maciu Gauna added 39 runs to help Fiji to a total of 5 for 174 in the first innings.
Opening bowler, Viliame Manakitoga, also received two votes towards the count for Player of the Tournament, for his bowling performance of 2 for 18 off four overs.

The side will take on Japan in a 50-over match this afternoon with the winner to advance to the final qualifying match for a place in the World Cricket League Division 6.

Meanwhile, Fijian players Viliame Mana, Riyad Khan and Sekove Ravoka were included in the Twenty20 Team of the Tournament alongside players from PNG, Vanuatu and Samoa.

Khan was named equal player of the tournament alongside PNG’s Lega Siaka after taking 19 wickets.
