England recorded their biggest win at a World Cup to overwhelm Panama 6 – 1 and secure a place in the last 16 before their final Group G game with Belgium.
Harry Kane played a captain’s role once more with a hat-trick to become the tournament’s leading scorer, as England built on their opening victory against Tunisia with an impressive show of ruthlessness and quality.
Kane has scored a tournament-leading five goals at the World Cup in Russia, one more than Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku. He also has 18 for England’s national team, one more than David Beckham.
This was England’s biggest win margin at the World Cup.
Kane and John Stone scored a brace in the first half while Jese Lingard got on the scoring sheet to put them 5-nil up at half-time.
Kane sealed the win with a hat-trick in the 62nd minute of play.
Felipe Baloy added a consolation goal for Panama in the 78th minute to give them something to take home in their first ever World Cup.
Belgium and England clash in the final pool game of the group on Friday.
