Traffic lights damaged by driver

Newly installed traffic light and pole at the Concave Drive junction along Queens Road at Namaka, Nadi have been damaged following an accident.

It has been alleged that the accident was caused by a drunk driver.

Fiji Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer John Hutchinson says the level of damage is costly and will result in some delays in completing repairs.

Hutchinson said the arrow amber light and the pedestrian signal are working, but on automatic until replacement materials can be sourced.

He says they are investing millions of dollars on the road assets for the public to be able to travel safely however people are not following the road rules.

FRA is trying to replace some components which need to be procured from Australia.

Hutchinson said they have sought assistance of the Namaka Police Station Traffic Team to control the traffic during peak hours.
