Stakeholders and the public had an opportunity to raise issues and suggestions on the Draft National Employment Policy at consultations in Nadi and Sigatoka yesterday.
The Draft policy is to identify and implement ways on employment in line with National Development Plan Goal 8, which is ‘inclusive and sustainable economy and decent work for all.
The session with hoteliers, construction companies, youths and the vanua allowed the ministry and the attendees to understand the policy which would form the nucleus for the Fijian workforce.
Employment Minister, Jone Usamate, says stakeholder awareness and consultation is critical in order to discuss issues, gaps and opportunities on the Policy before its endorsement and implementation.
Usamate says this policy allows the unemployed to choose their employment preferences freely, whether to join the formal employment service or self-employment service, foreign employment service or to become a volunteer including becoming a professional sports person.
