A country has high chances of attracting more development funds if it has a solid National Development Plan.

National Planning Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says development partners and donor agencies don’t just simply throw their money away.

Sayed-Khaiyum says having a National Development Plan will clearly tell the donor agencies what Fiji’s priority development areas are.

“Because they have their own budgets to, so they may say – this year we have only $100m available for aid – who do we give it to? If they go to a country that does not have a development plan, does not have a vision and a country that does – guess who they will give the money to. And they can also say that in 3 years time maybe we can assist them in this area because that it what they want.”

The Minister was speaking on FBC TV’s 4 the Record show last night.

Consultations on the National Development Plan continue.
