SODELPA endorses one day polling

July 27, 2016 5:50 pm

The Social Democratic Liberal Party has suggested changes in the 2018 General Elections while making a submission to the Parliamentary Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights.

Party Leader Sitiveni Rabuka and a three member SODELPA panel questioned a number of operational issues surrounding the 2014 elections.

Rabuka also found issues with the Multinational Observor Group report on voter intimidation saying that having the then FijiFirst candidate Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum as a serving minister wasn’t ideal.

“They did not say that there was no intimidation. There might have been a feeling of fait accompli prevailing upon the voters of Fiji and none expected anything to change when the incumbent party’s General Secretary was also the Minister for Election and the principal legal officer in the country.”

Party General Secretary Adi Litia Qionibaravi told the committee that voters had no idea about pre-polling and as there was little awareness.

SODELPA has however, endorsed one day polling saying it’s possible for a place like Fiji and has many advantages.
