There are more shocking revelations on the role of SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka played during the mutiny at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua 18 years ago.

The then military commander and current Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says Fijians have to be reminded about how Rabuka’s involvement in the 2000 mutiny it resulted in the deaths of so many and could have also resulted in Rabuka’s own death.

Bainimarama believes Fijians deserve to be reminded of the truth about Rabuka’s hand in the 2000 mutiny.

“And then i confronted him with a question about him being questioned, were you present because he needs to tell the people of Fiji that he was present and he said yes”

Bainimarama says Rabuka is lying about his involvement in the mutiny that almost destroyed Fiji.

“And he said that he was sent from home affairs, even if he was sent from home affairs what was he doing there with his uniform at the back of the car.”

Bainimarama confirms it was Rabuka’s motive to take over the leadership of the RFMF once the rebel soldiers had murdered Bainimarama.

“He wanted to take over the post of the Commander of the Military, if our officers would have given him then, our country would have been destroyed.”

With all that transpired in the 2000 coup, Bainimarama says Rabuka was lucky to have lived after what he tried to do.

“When the troops came in from the engineers section to take over the QEB Barracks, he was lucky that he was not shot because he was hiding under the table.”

Bainimarama says Fijians also have to remember that Rabuka was the first one to be seen in Ratu Mara’s office in 2000 after the Chaudhry government was toppled because he wanted to be the commander of the RFMF.

Bainimarama says if Ratu Mara would have agreed to Rabuka’s request, Fiji and all Fijians would have suffered miserably.
