Fiji is a peace loving country and crimes of rape, murder and other serious offenses do happen because there are elements in society that involve themselves in these type of activities.

This was highlighted by Police Commissioner Brigadier general Sitiveni Qiliho following the discovery of decomposed body parts of two foreigners in the West.

Brigadier general Qiliho says this is nothing compared to what happens around other tourist destinations in other countries.

“You just have to look at the statistics of our neighbors and its incumbent on the media on how it portrays this images or how it portrays this stories across the country. We report of rapes, we report of murders you just have to read the history books. If you’re a religious person you go back 2500 years ago; even the 10 commandment given to Moses at that time talked about murders and thou shall not steal and all that so this things do happen. But we’re not that bad. We’re not barricading ourselves, we’re a peace loving country and that is the way things are but this things do happen.”

Brigadier General Qiliho says it is the job of the Police to look into this and investigate such matters and the community’s assistance and support to maintain the order of the country.

He adds if we don’t play our part and help control such criminal activities than it can have a detrimental effect on the economy and the lives of all Fijians.
