The trial of an elderly man facing rape charges was deferred by the Suva High Court this morning.

Eighty-five-year-old Govind Sami Raju appeared before Judge Justice Salesi Temo.

Raju is charged with one count of indecent assault and one count of rape.

It is alleged that Raju indecently assaulted an eleven-year-old girl on the 19th of April, 2016 and allegedly raped her the following month.

The alleged offense took place in Nasinu.

Justice Temo deferred the matter as the trial clashed with a murder trial which is scheduled to take place this week.

The rape trial has been adjourned to October 23rd.
