Public welcomes release of soldiers

The news of the release of the forty five peace keepers have been welcomed by everyone here at home.

When the Fijian troops were taken by the Al-Nusra Front group, the nation came together as one in a prayer vigil… leaving aside all differences.

Their release after fourteen days has once again brought the nation together.

FBC News took to the streets and this is what the people said.

The international community, through its diplomatic missions here also welcomed the soldiers release.

The US Ambassador to Fiji, Frankie Reed commended Fiji and the international community for their perseverance to secure the soldiers’ safe release adding Fiji’s long-standing role working towards peace far from its shores is an inspiration and the recent events have proven how difficult is.

In another statement, the French Ambassador to Fiji, Gilles Montagnier acknowledged the team of negotiators and all efforts to secure the release of the soldiers – adding we have to pay tribute to the courage of Fijian peace keepers and to Fiji’s strong involvement in peace keeping.
