Plane force lands due to engine malfunction

Turtle Airways Limited has confirmed to FBC News this afternoon that its DHC2 Beaver aircraft made a forced landing due to an engine malfunction.

The incident happened at around 11am during a flight from the Yasawa Islands to Nadi.

Airline acting Accountable Manager Ian Gill, says the pilot conducted a successful forced landing in a cane field to the rear of The University of Fiji at Saweni in Lautoka.

The four passengers and the pilot were uninjured.

Gill says the passengers were airlifted by helicopter to Nadi.

He says the aircraft appears to be undamaged.

The cause of the incident is yet to be determined and Gill says they are co-operating with the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji in their investigation.

The Authority also confirmed the incident to FBC News saying they have begun the investigation.
