October 4, 2018 6:00 pm

Social Pension Scheme recipients using bank modes to access their allowance are urged to check their accounts every second week of every month.

This is after numerous concerns were received by the Social Welfare Department from recipients that allowance are not in their accounts in the first week of the month.

Director, Rupeni Fatiaki says the Department has procedures to follow before money are deposited into accounts.

“In some cases, if the first three days falls on a weekend, the first can be on a holiday, then we have Saturday and Sunday, that’s three days and that is the reason why we say please come on the 5th or after the 5th, because if it falls on a weekend, payments cannot be done by the banks because the banks are closed.”

Fatiaki says the Department has considered bank mode to help recipients in savings.

The Social Welfare Department has more than seventy thousand recipients under the Social Pension Scheme.
