Old politicians only bring in old politics: PM

April 15, 2012 8:08 pm

Former politicians have still not learnt their lessons say Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

He says he was waiting for them to re-emerge after the constitution consultation process was announced which didn’t take long.

In an exclusive interview, the Prime Minister told FBC News that not only were the old politicians back, but predictably most of them were pointing fingers at the Bainimarama government and that they hadn’t changed with the times.

“What is surprising to me though is they still bring the old politics but they can’t separate the two, old politicians will always bring old politics and what’s surprising is the fact they still coming up with the same old politics that has been the cause of all the problems in the past in Fiji.”

The Prime Minister says former politicians haven’t changed in one key aspect

“I guess what I’m saying, when they re-emerged they came back the old politics of race, not so much of race but racial discrimination which is not good, we’ve been trying to set people on the right path by providing an even playing field for everyone, and we really don’t want this people to come back and bring in the same old same old dirty politics that has not done us any good in the past.”

Bainimarama says his plan since 2006 has been geared to hand over a new, better Fiji to the politicians coming in after the 2014 election.
