Opposition MP Mika Leawere is hoping the Ministry of Education will give due credit to teachers in the 2016 national budget.
The first issue raised by Leawere is the salary of teachers and other civil servants, which he says should be raised by 12 percent.
He says when teachers are happy with their take home pay; work in their schools will be positively affected.
As well, Leawere proposes that the Ministry of Education consider restoring Executive Teacher positions to its former level.
In early 2014, government reduced by half the number of Executive teachers.
He also wants the Counselor positions in secondary schools which were reduced be increased to its previous level.
Leawere says the positions are an asset as it will assist students and teachers in their work.
He also asked if the issue of long service leave allowance can be restored.
The 2016 budget will be announced this Friday.
