The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation has taken a concerted effort to addressing the cases of children found selling food items in Suva.

Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Dr Josefa Koroivueta says upon an assessment exercise, they found eight children selling food items late in the evenings in some of the busy shopping centres around the city.

He says the Ministry doesn’t tolerate the use of children in any form of child labour or any illegal activities.

Dr Koroivueta says the Ministry is greatly concerned about this and as such a collaborative network has been formed between the Fiji Police Force, Ministry of Labour, Suva City Council and the Ministry of Children and they have already conducted operations in Suva this week.

He says the Ministry will continue to assess, address and closely monitor such cases.
