Fiji Navy Officers through its Rescue Coordination Center saved three hundred and eight people last year, who were drifting at sea.
Commander Navy, Captain Humphrey Tawake says the recuse efforts was part of its fifty-eight successful missions.
Captain Tawake says these missions’ runs into hundreds of thousands of dollars.
“Sometimes it stretches our budget because these are unforeseen circumstances but there is provision that is provided by the government that we try and use. Not only through the maritime services that we have but also the air capability that we hire from most of the island companies that are here.”
Captain Tawake has admitted without the assistance from Police and even the village headmen their operation wouldn’t be successful.
