Man sentenced for raping tenant

A fifty-four-year-old father of six was sentenced to eight years and ten months imprisonment, after he was convicted of two counts of rape.

The victim was a tenant of the accused.

The offence occurred on 1st July in 2013, when the wife of the accused was not at home and had asked the complainant to look after her children.

Judge Justice Sunil Sharma while sentencing the man said the aggravating factor features the breach of trust.

Justice Sharma says the victim was a tenant on the accused property, who trusted and respected him, like her father.

He says the victim was assisting his children by attending to household chores.

The man will be eligible for parole after serving 7 years behind bars.
