The Land Transport Authority today gazetted its taxi permit application form.
LTA Board Chair, Vijay Maharaj says taxi permits will now be applied under the new LTA amended regulation.
”It will be a change from what use to happen before so there will be no more for people to send in their application forms and say I want a taxi permit, this criteria have now gone. What will now happen as we have done, there will be a different zones around the country, about twelve zones and throughout the country and you will see maybe in this week’s paper, you will see expression of interest will be advertised in the newspaper and other media and people who think they can qualify because there are set of criteria can send in their expression of interest.”
Maharaj says application forms will be distributed according to places where there is a high demand for taxi services.
The highest demand for taxi services are from the Central and the Western division.
The Land Transport Authority will also appoint an independent committee which will review all taxi permit applications.
LTA currently has more than 100 applications before the freeze was put in place in 2011.
