Suva City Council will soon be appointing independent consultants to carry out review on the WG Friendship Plaza on McGregor Road in Suva.

Local Government Minister Parveen Kumar revealed that Suva City Council will advertise expression of interest for the independent consultants to carry out this review.

Kumar says through this review they will be able to get an independent report which will be fair.

“We need to have an independent report so that we can determine the claims that have been made towards that project and I think it is fair that we have an independent report so based on that we will appoint the independent consultants.”

Kumar confirms a stop order was issued however WG International told FBC News that no such order was given but they did get a letter from Ministry of Industry and Trade regarding material test.

Meanwhile ,Vijay Krishnan the Principal Engineer for Engineered Design a company that gave the approval for the construction of the Plaza , has told FBC News that procedures were followed to design and modify the building to suit local conditions.

Krishnan says more details and clarification will be released at a press conference tomorrow with the WG Construction Company.

The thirty storey building is expected to be completed next year and the Plaza includes a two storey basement and is said to become the tallest building in Fiji and the South Pacific.
