Fijian economy set for another positive growth

Finance Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says various governments policies have resulted into consecutive positive economic growth.

The economy is now forecast to expand by 4.3% this year…. an upward revision from the earlier forecast of 4%.

If this is revised forecast is achieved, it will be the country’s sixth consecutive year of positive growth.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the most critical step now is to look at new avenues to expand the revenue.

“In the past couple of years – probably about in the past one year and most definitely this year and leading on to next year we are seeing and we will see a lot of growth in the construction sector – as you can see around you there is a lot of construction taking place – new factories, new hotels, renovation of existing properties, indeed new homes and renovation of new homes.”

The growth estimate for last year has also been revised up to 4.5% from the earlier forecast of 4.2 percent.
