Farmer found guilty of possession of illicit drugs

A farmer from Gau in Lomaiviti who pleaded guilty to one count of being in possession of illicit drugs, namely marijuana will be sentenced next Monday.

Police entered the farm of Lasarusa Ratabua and uprooted marijuana plants, weighing at 726 grams from the island last month.

Police on the island were alerted that the farmer was planting marijuana, together with other root crops.

The man was arrested and escorted to Suva by Police last week.

He appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today and his bail has been extended.
