“We have been informed to leave the evacuation centre by today. But I told them that it’s impossible to leave and that they should go to our homes and see for themselves the conditions it is in. Either they show us another place to stay on we carry on being here because as it is, the current conditions is not safe.”

Masini-ika is pleading with the Commissioner Western Commander Joeli Cawaki to look into their plight.

“We have a humble request for the Commissioner West if he can look into the current situation we are facing and let us stay a few more days until the water has receded properly and we are able to clean our houses well. Right now the mud is stinking and it’s not healthy to go and live under those conditions.”

Comments have been sought from the Commissioner Western’s Office.
