Driver of Lami accident remanded

A twenty-three-year-old hotel worker who is alleged to have caused the death of an elderly woman on Saturday has been remanded by the Suva Magistrates Court.

Shiul Chand appeared in court today where Prosecution Sanil Kumar objected to his bail saying the accident resulted in the loss of an innocent life.

Chand has been charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning death.

It’s alleged the young man was driving the vehicle that hit a 77-year-old elderly woman in Lami.

The woman is alleged to have been hit while trying to cross the road after getting off the bus she was travelling in.

The woman died on the spot.

Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa will rule on the bail application tomorrow.
