The Nausori Town Council is holding meetings with various businesses and ratepayers to encourage to keep up with their town rates.

Chief Executive, Akhtar Ali says it’s important that people understand the magnitude of services that’s needed by them.

Ali says outstanding rates run into millions of dollars.

“There is quite a bit of arrears in terms of our rates that is why we are very strongly focusing on working together with our rate payers to encourage them to pay up the rates so that we can provide better services. So at the moment we’re having community meetings with rate payers and business stakeholders so that we can recover some of these arrears and we can provide better services to the people.”

Ali says some of the major projects the rate money is utilised for includes proper waste management services, upgrading of footpaths and drains.
