Customs dept lack proper equipment

June 29, 2012 1:43 am

There is a lack of proper equipment within Fiji’s customs administration to allow for the proper monitoring of Fiji’s port of entries.

This revelation was made to FBC News by Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority CEO Jitoko Tikolevu.

Just yesterday customs officers seized some undeclared gold bars and this was done only through the suspicious body language of the perpetrator.

Tikolevu says they lack the proper equipment.

It’s actually the x-ray machines that we don’t have. These are machines used globally by customs administrations to detect hidden things and things that are declared wrongly like weapons and other things.

Despite this Tikolevu says they’re doing their best to ensure Fiji is safe.
