The illegal items were located in his body cavity after a thorough search by the Fiji Corrections Service Emergency Control Unit personnel.

Deputy Commissioner of Corrections, Senior Superintendent Apimeleki Taukei says the contraband is now in the possession of Police who have begun their investigation into the matter.

Taukei says obviously, the illegal contraband caught on the prisoner was given to him by a member of the public.

Taukei says the convict and remand prisoners alike go to extreme lengths and undertake huge risks in attempts to smuggle illegal items into the centres.

Taukei is calling on the support of families, friends and the public to do the right thing and support the FCS in rehabilitating prisoners.
