Court proceedings should speed up: FWCC

There has been an improvement in how the courts deal with sexual offences says the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre.

However, Coordinator Shamima Ali says legal processes can be faster.

“You know working in the community so the few cases that do go to court it takes a long time so within that time people often – I think we don’t have the procedures right yet to make it smoother and easier for children and their families to excess justice when they are sexually abused –so that is the problematic area.”

Ali says they are happy that offenders are getting non- parole sentencing.
