Bus companies have submitted all financial information: FBOA

April 12, 2019 4:34 pm

The bus companies are confused as to what data the Minister for Transport is referring to says the Fiji Bus Operators Association, General Secretary.

Responding to Jone Usamate’s comments today, Rohit Latchan says the profit and loss statements submitted by bus companies are sufficient to determine revenue and costs.

The General Secretary adds that operators have gone out of their way to comply with demands for financial information by the Independent Bus Fare Review Committee.

Latchan says while mounting costs have hit bus operators hard, many companies have over the years continued their services because of their relationship with the travelling public.

Earlier today, the Minister for Transport Jone Usamate stated that any changes to the current bus fares will only be made after real-time data is collected and compiled.

Usamate says, the Government’s stand is clear and that they will not act on claims but will follow proper procedures before any decision is made.

At the moment, the Bus Fare Review Committee has been collecting relevant data from bus companies and the public.

So far the Committee has spoken to 14,000 people and 35 bus companies.
