A Fiji Airways plane heading from Los Angeles to Fiji was diverted to Honolulu in Hawaii early Sunday morning.

According to a Fiji Airways Spokesperson, Fiji Airways flight FJ811 was diverted for about five hours into the flight due to a disruptive guest on board.

It is alleged a passenger had assaulted two people mid-flight.

The passenger had to be restrained by Cabin Crew and a decision was made by the Captain to divert the flight to Honolulu in the interest of safety.

The Airline says the aircraft landed in Honolulu safely without further incident at around 4.20am and the alleged rowdy passenger was handed over to security agencies upon arrival.

The suspect was taken to the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu.
