A man in his 50s passed away following a car accident in the Northern Division last night.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says the victim was crossing the road near Vulovi along the Labasa/Wainikoro Road when he was allegedly hit by a taxi driven by a man in his late 20s.

The victim is from Vulovi village.

The driver was allegedly travelling at a very high speed when the incident occurred, however investigation continues.

A post mortem will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.

The road death toll now stands at 58 compared to 51 for the same period last year.
