October 28, 2018 6:45 pm

The Fiji Financial Intelligence Unit has investigated five hundred suspicious transactions for the first nine months of this year.

Unit Director Razim Buksh says this is twenty less compared to the same period last year.

Buksh says fraudulent emails sent to businesses requesting for payments to be diverted to offshore bank accounts, tops their investigations.

“Of this 2/3 of the reports, 60% almost comes from the commercial banks – that is expected and every year we see the same trend and slightly less than 1/3 is from the foreign exchange dealers. We have seen a number of STRs coming from the members of the public as well.”

The director says other cases include internet banking, fraud, credit card scam and ATM skimming.
