A 19-year-old man alleged to have caused the death of a 7 year old girl on Saturday night has been charged.

The accused has been charged with one count of murder.

Following a review of the elements of the case, investigators have decided to charge the accused with murder.

The alleged accident occurred at the junction of Foster Road and Tamavua-I-wai after 8 pm on Saturday night.

The accused is alleged to have bumped the victim who was crossing the road with an adult and another child.

The accused reported the matter at the Delainavesi Police Post whereby officers and bystanders removed the victim and rushed her to CWM Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The road death toll currently stands at 36.
