The Lautoka City Council is now ready to open the $1.2m market next to the existing one.

Council Chief Executive Jone Nakauvadra told FBC News that the new space will accommodate 450 vendors.

Nakauvadra says this was much needed because many vendors were selling their produce under hot sun and in rain during bad weather.

Vendors were temporarily moved away from the site while works were carried out.
