September 26, 2019 6:04 am

Head of Digicel Fiji, Mike Greig has commended the recent FINTEL review.

From the first of October, the rental fee for 10 gigabytes of data from FINTEL will cost telecommunication companies $640, a hefty decrease from the previous fee of $40,000.

Grieg says this augurs well for the digital age and Fiji’s continued progress towards a digital transformation across all sectors.

“It would be remiss of me not to congratulate the Fijian Commerce Commission, FCCC and the Fijian government for what is a fantastic piece of work that’s taken some time, we’ve been lobbying for it for a long time, however it brings Fiji in line with international benchmark conditions. Data is a precious commodity now, in fact it’s the commodity.”

The CEO adding that more Fijians will be able to access the internet which in recent years has been made possible with healthy competition in the marketplace.

Digicel Fiji are also expected to roll out new data packages from next week with the new FINTEL fees in effect from Tuesday.
