“There are two fake promotions asking customers to select on the icon and submit a $5 payment, once they do they will receive a Samsung smartphone, that’s one promotion. And the other one is saying customers have won the promotion prize and a parcel is awaiting collection at the nearest post office with $5 payment required”.

He says the fake notification is also received via a text message platform.

Post-Fiji is liaising with relevant authorities to curb the issue.

“We are stopping the ISP partners that is one of the things. We also spoke with the Fiji Cyber Crime department and they are also looking into that. Apart from that, the text messages which has gone from Vodafone platform, we are also talking with Vodafone and they are also ascertaining what is happening here”.

Dr. Bansod highlighted that this is the second time the company has to encounter this online scam.
