There will be less opportunities for theft and mugging if EFTPOS machines are installed in Taxi’s.

Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum made this statement as he urged Taxi Operators to come forward and be part of the new technology.

Yesterday, ANZ Bank with Ever Ready Taxi launched the ANZ POS so now customers travelling in their taxis can pay fare using ATM Card.

Sayed-Khaiyum says this will also reduce risks involving taxi drivers.

“It also means there’s less opportunity for theft, less opportunity for mugging because at the moment people do steal from taxi drivers because they have cash on them, and now the moment you swipe your card the money goes into the bank account, so you have nothing to steal from them”

Sayed-Khaiyum says the government has fully supported this idea and they have allocated funds to subsidize the cost of the installation of Point of Sale machines.
