The Republic of Fiji Military Forces supports the return of the Ombudsman under the Constitution Amendment Bill 2026.

RFMF Commander Major General Jone Kalouniwai urged the Special Parliamentary Committee reviewing the bill including section 2(6), civilian direction of the military and the return of the Ombudsman.

Major General Kalouniwai said section 2 set a standard for a supreme law that no person could abolish or suspend and the bill must meet that standard and protect those who cannot protect themselves.

The RFMF urged the committee to retain the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption, ensure balance in the Constitutional Offices Commission and safeguard the courts.
