The expected dry weather conditions linked to El Niño have highlighted the importance of reliable water supplies at Naqarawai SDA Primary School in Namosi, following the handover of two new water tanks.
The tanks are expected to help students and staff maintain access to clean water as the school prepares for possible water shortages during the dry period.
Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu says the donation comes at an important time, with dry weather conditions expected.
Dr Lalabalavu says improving Water, Sanitation and Hygiene facilities in schools is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of diseases.
He says access to clean water and proper sanitation helps protect children from communicable diseases and allows them to maintain good hygiene.
The tanks were provided through the Ministry of Health and Medical Services’ WASH Programme for schools.
School head Ben Makuaketena says the new water tanks will greatly benefit both students and staff, particularly as the school prepares for the expected dry conditions.
The donation is expected to strengthen the school’s water supply and help ensure students have access to clean water during the El Niño period.
