Uphill battle for Navua footballers

April 13, 2012 2:59 am

It’s an uphill battle for Navua soccer when they take on Rewa in their Fiji Sun/ GP Batteries National Football League match on Sunday at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

Navua president, Gopal Naidu says like most western districts, they have faced difficulty in preparing a strong side.

The Southern Giants will also be without centre-link, Praneel Chand due to family commitments who will be replaced by youngster, Joseph Elder.

“I’m working on attacking.. if you noticed in our last five games we have only managed to score only three goals and we lose by only one or two goals but I have focussed on our strike force and it will be tough for Rewa to defend.”

Naidu adds they will use their game against Rewa as a build up towards the Fiji FACT.

Naidu adds former Navua and current Rewa reps, Lorima Dau and Praneel Kumar will be familiar with their style but fielding a young team will make them unpredictable.

The Navua-Rewa match kicks off at 3pm on Sunday while Lautoka hosts Suva at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Only one league match will be played at 3pm tomorrow between Labasa and Savusavu at Subrail Park.

A live commentary of the Lautoka-Suva match will air on our sister staion, Radio Fiji Two with the voice of soccer, Raymond Stoddart.
