Suva defeats Dreketi to go top of VPL

February 19, 2016 10:06 am

The Suva football side has moved to the top of the Vodafone Premier League points table with a 6-2 win over Dreketi at the ANZ Stadium in the capital today.

The Gurjit Singh coached side got on the score sheet early as Sakaraia Naisua took advantage of a defensive blunder by Dreketi to net in Suva’s first goal.

Nippy Sahil Dave added another to put the whites in command but a failed clearance by Naisua minutes later saw Dreketi pull one back as the Suva defender headed the ball into his own net.

Suva settled in well and scored another two goals through Rusiate Matererega and Pita Rabo while Apisalome Turuva added one more for Dreketi from the penalty spot for a 5-2 lead for the hosts at half-time.

The second half failed to live up to expectations as Nickel Chand scored the lone goal of the half late into the match with a cross which Dreketi goal keeper Shaneel Naidu failed to cut out.

Suva now has two wins from as many matches.

In matches coming up this weekend, Dreketi faces Rewa at 3pm on Sunday at Ratu Cakobau Park.

In a double header at Prince Charles Park on Sunday, Ba plays Nadroga at 2pm while Nadi takes on Lautoka at 4pm.
