Former World Number 1 golfer, Vijay Singh is encouraging more Fijians to take up the sport of golf and one day compete in the Fiji International.

Singh will be making his return this year to the Natadola Bay Championship Course in Sigatoka after competing in the inaugural tournament last year.

After finishing in the top 10 last year, Singh is determined to win the title on the course he helped design.

“Even if they are not playing really good, at least they are in the field. It’s going to give a little more chance to players to try a little harder to get to the tournament. So I’d like to see about ten locals playing in it and more next year.”

Seven local players will be among the 132 competitors that will compete at the Fiji International that will begin this Thursday.

The local golfers will also get a chance to compete for the FJD$1.76million prize money.
