After finishing 4th in the 10,000 meters on Tuesday, Avikash Lal bounced back to win a silver medal in the 5000 meters yesterday, recording a personal best time as well.

Lal was leading throughout the race until the last 200 meters when Tahiti’s Samuel Aragaw took over and ran away with the gold medal.

The long distance runner says he’s happy to win something for Fiji.

“This silver medal is a gold medal for me, I was just focused on killing the race. That’s how we should run a race. I am so happy that I have won a silver medal.”

Lal clocked a time of 15:45:54 seconds.
